Decision

MPE accused Chamber of illicit spending of financial resources during the 2022 electoral campaign

Manaus (AM) — The Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE-AM) accepted, this Friday (22), the embargoes for declaration on a previous decision and freed the federal deputy, Silas Câmara (Republicans), from losing his warrant.

The Public Electoral Ministry (MPE) accused the Chamber of illicit expenditure of financial resources during the 2022 electoral campaign, with the chartering of aircraft.

The score was 4 votes in favor and 2 against. The rapporteur, judge Pedro Ribeiro, judge Carla Reis and electoral judges Victor Liuzzi and Fabrício Marques were in favor, while judges Marcelo Pires and Marcelo Soares disagreed.

On social media, the federal deputy celebrated the decision and pointed to it as a victory for the “people of Amazonas”. “Today, our appeal was voted on at the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-AM) and we won, Justice being reestablished, with the will of God and the people of Amazonas”, he highlighted.

Case of ‘cracking’

The accusation of illicit expenses was not the first case faced by Silas Câmara. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) had already accused the federal deputy of embezzlement, a crime committed by a public official against the administration in general.

The action pointed to the diversion of Chamber resources to pay advisors, a practice known as “rachadinha”, during the period of 2000 and 2001. The parliamentarian was also accused of having appointed employees who carried out private activities as public servants.

In a decision, an agreement was established, validated by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, between Silas Câmara and the PGR for the payment of a fine in the amount of R$ 242 thousand, in December 2022. The Federal Supreme Court (STF) closed the process after full compliance with the agreement.
