Senators Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS) and Magno Malta (PL-ES) met this Friday (24) with the President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Rosa Weber, to request speed in the analysis of the files of the 920 people who were arrested after the acts of vandalism on January 8.

According to Marinho, leader of the opposition in the Senate, there must be “individualization of conduct”, so that those who have not committed crimes can be released. The senator also reinforced that people who were caught in an act of depredation at the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília, “must respond with due legal process”.

According to Marinho, minister Rosa Weber showed “sympathy” to the demand. He also informed that he is trying to schedule an audience with the rapporteur of the inquiry, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who last week prohibited the Justice of the Federal District from granting visits to prisoners for acts of January 8th.

Before the ruling, the three senators and other parliamentarians opposing the Lula government visited the Papuda Penitentiary Complex and the Federal District Women’s Penitentiary, known as “Colmeia”, to verify the situation of the arrested demonstrators suspected of participating in acts of vandalism in the January 8th.

After the visit, they published a note reporting the precariousness and overcrowding of the prison unit, which would be reflected in “the quality of food supply to prisoners and health care, as verified on site”.
