Crowdfunding for student in Amazonas raises more than 100 thousand reais in 12 hours

The student scores a thousand in the essay of the 2022 National High School Examination (Enem), Rilary Castro, 18 years old, is from the municipality of Itapiranga (227 kilometers from Manaus). Her family, earning only the minimum wage, cannot pay for the student’s journey to Manaus, nor help her to stay in the capital. The internet then opened a fundraiser this Friday (24th), and donations exceeded 100,000 reais in just 12 hours.
The crowdfunding was opened by Voaa, the donation platform of Razões Para Acreditar, a press vehicle, with authorization from Rilary’s family. The fundraising objective given by the site was 70 thousand reais. In two days, the amount donated was more than 129,000, exceeding expectations by 80%.
Previously, Rilary reported her difficulties in an interview with O Globo. She explained that her dream course, civil engineering, is available at the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam). The young woman was approved in 2022 for the materials engineering course at the State University of Amazonas (UEA), but was unable to enroll for the cost of tickets to Manaus.
“Before even knowing the Enem scores, I had talked to my family and said that I would continue studying to take the university entrance exams and try to enter only in July. I can’t now, at the beginning of the year, for logistical reasons, such as housing and means of transport, start a college in Manaus”, says Rilary.
In addition to the support of Internet users, Governor Wilson Lima got in touch with the student, and assured that the Department of Education of Amazonas (Seduc) will provide all necessary assistance. Ufam also provided student shelter.
Until the closing of this edition, 5057 people made their contributions. Donations can be made in any amount between R$2.00 and R$1000.00, through the web address voa.me/vaquinhaestudante.
