After 50 years of waiting, the greatest public health project in Amapá has come to fruition and is finally becoming a reality, thanks to the direct action of the senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), coordinator of the federal bench. This Monday morning (18), alongside the governor Clécio Luís, the parliamentarian participated in the beginning of works on the new Emergency Hospital (HE) of Macapá, whose building will have five floors, a helipad, 212 beds and six fully equipped surgical centers. The expectation is that the HE will be ready in March 2026. Main coordinator of resources for the construction of the largest civil work underway in the state, Davi Alcolumbre said that this is, without a doubt, one of his biggest dreams come true for the state and a campaign commitment that is increasingly close to being fulfilled.

All processes for the beginning of the construction of the HE included Davi’s participation. The senator came up with the coordination of the R$ 120 million needed for the construction of the new hospital care center in Macapá. It was also Alcolumbre who provided the necessary funds to start the HE project and, after dozens of meetings and political meetings, managed to grant the federal government the land where the new emergency room will be located. “This area, which belonged to the Brazilian Army, was requested, for many years, by other government officials who passed through Amapá, because it is a noble area. It is 11 m² and, at the time of the donation, was valued at R$30 million. We fought hard and, today, we are realizing our 50-year dream in search of dignified service for the people of Amapá”celebrated.

The HE project started in the government Waldez Góes, today Minister of Integration and Regional Development. Even before this period, in Brasília (DF), Davi Alcolumbre was already working to implement the HE in the capital. Since 2019, when he was president of the Federal Senate, there were dozens of meetings and political meetings until the senator managed to obtain the donation, by the federal Executive, of the land where the new hospital will operate. At least 20 years ago, the state of Amapá tried to cede the area, but made no progress in the articulations. After Davi entered the negotiations, a contract was signed in 2020 between the government of Amapá and the Superintendence of Heritage of the Union (SPU), ensuring that the area, previously belonging to the Brazilian Army, would be ceded for the construction of the new hospital.

With the donation of the land completed, Alcolumbre organized the vote, in the National Congress, in December 2020, of a bill, opening credit of R$ 120 million for the construction of the Emergency Hospital – identified by the Ministry of Defense as a work of great relevance to the country and by the Ministry of Health as a Large Hospital. “One thing led to another. The donation of the land ensured that we were able to present a bill with a credit of R$ 120 million and, today, on the eve of the São José holiday, we are celebrating a dream dreamed of decades ago by many, many people from Amapá”celebrated Alcolumbre.

During the inauguration event of the works, this Monday, 18th, Alcolumbre highlighted the union between federal and state governments and political leaders from Amapá so that the HE could become a reality in the capital.

“Political leaders in our state came together because they understood the importance of this work, which is a turning point in the history of public health in Amapá. It is a significant work, which will transform the reality of nine hundred thousand people from Amapá”said David. “Eenador Dntão, today, is not a notice, it is not the laying of a cornerstone, it is the beginning of a dream awaited for 50 years by our state”he added.

HE: 50 years of waiting

The new hospital center promises to revolutionize public care in the state, with functional urgent and emergency care units, including trauma, orthopedics, cardiology, burn treatment, medical clinic care with pediatric and adult hospitalization, diagnostic and therapy support services . The property where the emergency room will operate will be built in the military area, where the old Vila Militar was located, behind the Oswaldo Cruz Emergency Hospital. It will have more than 11 thousand m² of area to expand the services provided, including an imaging diagnostic center, such as radiology, hemodynamics, tomography, ultrasound, resonance, endoscopy and graphic methods (Doppler, Holter, among others).

In addition to recognizing Senator Davi’s work in carrying out the project, Governor Clécio Luís highlighted the importance of HE to guarantee humanized and quality care for the people of Amapá. “This is the most important public health project to be built in Amapá throughout its history. It is a complete turning point for our public health; the first major project after five decades that will revolutionize health care in Amapá”.

For Davi Alcolumbre, the hospital is a historic landmark not only for Macapá but for the entire state. “Without a doubt, this is a banner of my mandate that I will not rest until it is completed. I will be following every step of this new emergency room because I know that the new HE will change the lives of thousands of Amapá residents. Providing the population with decent emergency and urgent care is what we want and we are working towards that.”stressed Alcolumbre.
