Marcio Bittar also expressed dissatisfaction with the stance of rich countries in relation to the Amazon
Senator Marcio Bittar (União-AC) lamented, in a speech this Tuesday (17), the lack of infrastructure and the poverty situation in the Amazon region, which suffers from problems such as lack of basic sanitation, difficulties in accessing water and dependence of the population on the Bolsa Família program. But, despite the lack of investment in infrastructure, NGOs that work in the Amazon raise billions, the parliamentarian pointed out.
“NGOs spend almost everything that comes from Western Europe on courses, lectures and employees. And what are you going to teach? What activity will you help, make people learn, in a region that has no roads? What are you going to invent? How will the person take the products to produce? How do you get out of there?”
he questioned.
Bittar also expressed discontent with the stance of rich countries towards the Amazon, stating that they have not fulfilled their compensation promises. According to the parliamentarian, Norway, responsible for financing the Amazon Fund, is the same country that increased its oil exploration in the North Sea.
“It is man who changes the planet’s climate, it is warming because of man, burning fossil fuels. But don’t you think it’s a contradiction? Do you agree, think this and receive money from those who burn the most fossil fuels on the planet? And they remain silent with promises that do not come true? And the answer is always like this, en passant: ‘Yes, Senator Márcio, we even think that rich countries, in fact, promise a lot and pay nothing’”,
observed.
