Senate commission confirms Lucas project on federalization of highway stretch in Amapá – News of Brazil

In a deliberative meeting this Wednesday (10), the Infrastructure Commission (CI) approved, in a supplementary shift, the substitute for Senator Lucas Barreto’s (PSD-AP) project that federalizes the road linking the municipality of Vitória do Jari to the intersection of BR-156 highway. Voting on the matter was waived because amendments had not been presented within the statutory period.
PL 1.717/2019 was reported to the committee by Senator Wellington Fagundes (PL-MT) and, if there is no appeal for voting in plenary, it now goes to the Chamber of Deputies.
The proposal changes the list of highways in the Federal Highway System to add the road, which would be called BR-431 according to the original text. However, the rapporteur presented an amendment for the Executive itself to define the official nomenclature of the section, considering that there is already a highway in Roraima with that name. Both the official name and the definitive layout of the highway must be defined by the competent body.
hindrance
To justify the federalization proposal, Lucas Barreto argues that the lack of resources for the necessary works on the highway hinders the development of the region, which is served only by roads in precarious conditions. According to the author, this makes it difficult for the population to travel to work and seek medical care in other locations, especially in the neighboring municipality, Laranjal do Jari.
In his opinion, Wellington Fagundes considered that the non-existence of the road connection foreseen in the project really restricts the possibilities of displacement of the local population and inhibits the development of the region.
