After going through the CAE, the name of Galípolo still needs to be submitted to a secret vote on the Senate floor
Brasilia DF) – The current executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Gabriel Galípolo, must undergo a sabbatical at the Senate Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) on June 27, when his appointment to the Central Bank’s Monetary Policy board will be evaluated by the collegiate, second agenda of the commission already scheduled.
After going through the CAE, the name of Galípolo still needs to be submitted to a secret vote in the full Senate.
Once approved by the senators, Galípolo is authorized to assume a position responsible for taking care of interest and exchange rate instruments, in addition to technically guiding the administration of the country’s international reserves, in what could be just the beginning of his steps in the institution.
Galípolo was nominated for the strategic role by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with whom he is close.
The economist graduated from PUC-SP, with a master’s degree in political economy, became a trusted man of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and, already in the transition, used his connections to bridge the future minister with the financial market, helping to assuage the distrust that existed in the sector with the new government.
In addition, the current Treasury executive secretary has one more asset: a relationship with Campos Neto – who has already congratulated him on his nomination -, which can improve communication between the current board and the government.
