The Senate approved this Wednesday (8) the nomination of federal deputy Jhonatan de Jesus (Republicanos-RR) for the vacancy of minister of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). There were 72 votes in favor, two against and one abstention. He should replace minister Ana Arraes, who retired. The nomination was reported by Senator Mecias de Jesus (Republicanos-RR), Jhonatan’s father, and follows for promulgation.

The deputy had the support of the mayor, Arthur Lira, of seven parties (MDB, PDT, Podemos, PP, PSB, PSD and União) and two federations (PSDB-Cidadania and PT-PCdoB-PV), informed the Agency. Senate. As the position of TCU minister is for life, with compulsory retirement at the age of 75, Jhonatan, 39 years old, will be able to occupy the position until 2059. The nomination was approved by the deputies on February 2nd.

TCU vacancies are distributed among nominations from the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies and the Presidency of the Republic — three for each. Vacancies must be filled in a binding manner: the replacement of a minister is up to the same entity that appointed him. Jhonatan was the nominee of the Chamber of Deputies. The TCU is the auxiliary body of the National Congress in the external control of public administration.

Born in Boa Vista in 1983, Jhonatan de Jesus is a doctor and businessman and is starting his fourth consecutive term in the Chamber, since 2011. He is the son of Senator Mecias de Jesus, also from the Republicans, and affiliated to the party (former PRB) since 2009 .
