‘PSDB is opposition to PT on BC autonomy’, says Leite

Before the agenda at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for individual audiences with ministers Luiz Fux, André Mendonça and Nunes Marques, Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) had the afternoon of this Wednesday (8) dedicated to the press in the center of the country, in Brasilia.

In the federal capital, Leite commented on the most recent issues of national politics, projected the future of the PSDB – the party that presides nationally – and again made himself available to be an alternative to the presidency of the Republic in 2026.

To Metrópoles, he commented on the recent controversy involving the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Central Bank (BC). “The PSDB is opposed to the positions of president Lula and the PT in relation to the autonomy of the Central Bank, the attack it makes on privatizations, a lack of understanding about the change in the economic scenario”, stated the gaucho.

“This all causes us concern. The PSDB should be opposed to measures that try to reverse important advances, from an institutional point of view, in relation to the economy. or issues related to privatizations. All of this should be opposed by the PSDB, but it will not make the PSDB a party that adheres to Bolsonarism. We have to get out of this narrow rule. .

In an attempt to lead the democratic center back to protagonism, Leite seeks to publicize the thesis that the polarization that guided the last two presidential elections would be overcome. As an example, he compared the elections for the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate.

“I disagree that the Senate election was effectively Lula and Bolsonaro. We cannot synthesize Brazil in this narrow ruler. This stage was overcome. This type of binary thinking caused the country to be in this radical polarization. we observed PT, from Lula, and PL, from Bolsonaro, voting together for Arthur Lira (PP-AL)”, he said, in the same interview.

On the occasion, Leite again made himself available for a future candidacy for the presidency of the Republic, but stated that he does not make 2026 a personal project. “Designing 2026, I want to get there by making a contribution so that the country is not discussing Lula and Bolsonaro again. If they understand that I am that alternative, I can be available again. If there is another name that is better able to unite forces and represent this center project will have my full support”, said the gaucho.

Leite’s task of contributing to an alternative to Planalto starts internally. President of the PSDB since last Thursday, the gaucho wants to revamp the party, give a new label to toucans and once again make a protagonist a legend that has not reached the presidency since Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1995-2002).
