Biofuel entities and associations claim to be able to immediately meet the increase of up to 20% in the mixture of biodiesel and diesel, a measure signaled by the rapporteur of the fuel of the future project in the Chamber, deputy Arnaldo Jardim (Cidadania-SP).
The survey on production capacity was carried out by four entities: Abiove (Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries), Aprobio (Association of Biofuel Producers of Brazil), Ubrabio (Brazilian Union of Biodiesel and Bioquerosene) and FPBio (Mixed Parliamentary Front of Biodiesel) from Congress.
According to the data, the sector has an authorized annual production capacity of 14.7 billion biodiesel, for an estimated demand of 13.2 billion liters of biodiesel.
“The sector is now ready to meet the increase in the mixture of biodiesel in fossil diesel, including moving towards B20 [20% de biodiesel e 80% de diesel]”, says Donizete Tokarski, superintendent director of Ubrabio. “Since 2018, the entire chain has invested and prepared to expand its production aiming for 15% blending by 2022, which ended up being frustrated by decisions made by the past government.”
“The sector reaches 19 years of history with sufficient strength to support Brazil in its commitment to meeting its decarbonization targets in the transport sector, in addition to being an example of energy transition”, states Francisco Turra, president of the board of directors of Aprobio.
