A team from the Ministry of Cities will visit this Saturday (1) several peripheral regions in Rio de Janeiro, including the place in Complexo da Maré where the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, was on March 13.
At the head of the team will be the Secretary for Peripheral Territories of the folder, Guilherme Simões. “I’m going to exactly the same place Minister Dino went to, Redes da Maré. It’s absurd that the right criminalizes the favela the way they’re trying to do it”, says the secretary.
The minister’s visit was attacked by opposition parliamentarians, who insinuated without evidence that he would have made some deal with drug traffickers operating in the region.
Simões will also visit the favelas of Rocinha, Complexo do Alemão and Baixada. In these places, his agenda includes talking to community leaders and listening to their demands.
“The idea is to map territorial initiatives that are effective in combating social inequality and integrate them into the ministry’s policies,” he says.
