The relationship between Brazil and Argentina should not change with Javier Milei as president of the neighboring country. The statement was made by the Argentine ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Scioli. The president-elect announced, this Wednesday (29), that the diplomat remains in office “for now” to mediate between the two countries.
At an event at the Argentine embassy in Brasília, Scioli even compared Lula and Milei’s relationship with the period between Alberto Fernández and former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). “Even with President Bolsonaro and President Fernández, and the ideological difference between them, we work with Brazil because it is an important partner for Argentina,” he said. According to Scioli, the same should be maintained in the coming years with the PT and Libertarian in power.
As stated in the press, the diplomat has already visited the Planalto Palace twice in recent days and met with the president’s special advisor for foreign relations, Celso Amorim, and with the Minister of Communication, Paulo Pimenta. According to Scioli, there is already dialogue between the two parties and “very significant work” is being done between the two countries.
Since 2022, Scioli has been Argentina’s ambassador to Brazil. The nomination was made by Peronist Alberto Fernández. After Milei’s victory, on the 19th, rumors were that the libertarian would nominate a new name to occupy the position in Brazil. The future president of Argentina, however, announced that – “for now” – Scioli remains in post.
