School attacks: Government will meet with platforms – 04/10/2023 – Daily life

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security will have a meeting with representatives of WhatsApp, Google, Twitter and Kwai with the intention of establishing a protocol for preventing and confronting violence in schools. The objective is for digital platforms to work together with bodies of the Unified Public Security System.

The meeting is part of the actions of the Interministerial Working Group for policies to prevent and confront violence in schools. The group is led by the Ministry of Education and was established by means of a decree signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva last week.

The first meeting was attended by the Ministers of Education, Camilo Santana; of Human Rights and Citizenship, Silvio Almeida; the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Márcio Macedo; from Sport, Ana Moser; and Health, Nísia Trindade. Representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic were present.

The objective is to build a violence prevention policy in schools, also including immediate and concrete actions in educational establishments and surroundings. The initiative is a response to recent acts of violence that took place in São Paulo (SP) and Blumenau (SC).

The latest attack took place at a daycare center in Blumenau when a 25-year-old man killed four children.

The folder had already announced an investment of BRL 150 million in supporting school rounds. The measure will be made through a public notice, which has yet to be published.

The resources will come from the National Public Security Fund and will be offered to states and municipalities, which have the constitutional competence to carry out ostensive patrols.

COMPLAINT CHANNEL

On Friday, the Ministry of Justice had already announced the creation of an exclusive channel to receive complaints about suspected attacks on educational institutions.

The creation of the platform for complaints is yet another initiative of the Safe School Operation that seeks, in partnership with the states, to establish preventive actions to guarantee the safety of educational institutions across the country after attacks that resulted in deaths in two schools.

The service will be offered in partnership with SaferNet Brasil, an NGO that defends human rights on the internet.

According to the ministry, the data will be analyzed by teams from Ciberlab/Diopi (Laboratory of Cybernetic Operations of the Directorate of Integrated Operations and Intelligence). The group in this area now has 50 police officers to advise on cybercrime investigations in the country.

The goal is that, in the coming days, they will dedicate themselves, on a 24-hour basis, to monitoring threats against schools.
