Manaus City Hall, via the Municipal Department of Education, participated in the national meeting
Manaus (AM) – Manaus City Hall, via the Municipal Department of Education (Semed), participated in the national meeting “Busca Ativa Escolar”, which brought together representatives from education departments across the country, on Monday and Tuesday, 18th and 19th of September, in Brasília (DF). The program was carried out by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef). The objective was to expose the flowchart of the municipality’s infrequent active search, carried out by the Municipal Sociopsychopedagogical Assistance Center (Cemasp), throughout the city.
In Brazil, between 2018 and 2023, more than 193 thousand children and adolescents, who were out of school or at risk of dropping out, were found by Busca Ativa Escolar (BAE) and returned to the classroom. The strategy, developed by Unicef and the National Union of Municipal Education Directors (Undime), with the support of partners, celebrates its 6th anniversary this week, and has the support of 3,500 municipalities and 22 Brazilian states.
In the work carried out by Cemasp, BAE is a term that refers to the actions of identifying, locating and rescuing students who are not attending school, with a view to preventing school dropout and dropout.
According to the head of Semed’s School Management Support Division (Dage), Luiz Oliveira, during the event, educators from all over Brazil were able to learn about the work carried out in Manaus, similar to that of Unicef, which allows the municipal network to join teaching to the program.
“Unicef invited us to showcase Cemasp’s work, given that, in several cities, this active search is already taking place in partnership with Unicef. The city of Manaus has not yet joined the active search directly with Unicef, but our work at Cemasp is very similar. Of course, specifically, with education. Unicef has a broader proposal, involving the other departments, especially because we understand that the active search work has to be done jointly, it cannot be singular”,
explained.
According to Luiz Oliveira, Semed’s representative at the meeting, now, Unicef should talk to secretary Dulce Almeida to really check the possibility of Manaus also being part of Unicef’s agenda with the school search as well.
