Appointed by the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, the Attorney General Sarah Cavalcanti assumes the administrative leadership of the Federal Public Ministry in Amapá. As a substitute, the PGR designated the attorney of the Republic Milton Souza. The ordinance, effective as of August 21, was published last Wednesday (30) in the Official Gazette.
Chief Prosecutor Sarah Cavalcanti, born in São Luís/MA, has been in Amapá since January 2021. In the state, she serves as the holder of the Regional Attorney for Citizens’ Rights. After conducting the thematic office for the defense of social and consumer rights for two years, she now deals with matters related to the fight against corruption.
Deputy in the position of Chief Prosecutor, Milton Souza is the first public prosecutor from Amapá. MPF member since 2020, he served in Pará and returned to Amapá in May of this year. In addition to replacing the administrative head, Milton Souza is a regional electoral attorney and deals with criminal matters and those related to the environment and the fight against corruption.
The mandate that the members of the MPF now assume was initiated by the attorneys of the Republic Alexandre Guimarães and Pablo Beltrand, chief prosecutor and substitute chief prosecutor, respectively, elected by the College of Attorneys of the Attorney General’s Office in Amapá, in 2021. Both were removed on request to other units of the federation, in mid-August of this year.
New elections for the position of chief prosecutor will be held in September in all MPF administrative units in Brazil. The mandates begin in October and will be exercised in the 2023-2025 biennium.
