São Paulo hosts pro-Israel and pro-Palestine demonstrations this Sunday

Protesters gathered on Avenida Paulista, this Sunday (22), in pro-Israel and pro-Palestine events. At different times and points on the road, participants carried flags of the territories they defended and posters with protest phrases.

Amid the conflict between Hamas and Israel in the Middle East, protesters gathered on the busiest avenue in São Paulo called for peace. Furthermore, one side called for “an end to the massacre” and the other for the “release of Israeli hostages.”

The pro-Israel front was organized by representatives of the “Pro-Israel Demonstration to End Terrorism”. The group met in front of Fiesp at around 2pm this Sunday (22) and the organization claims that around 10 thousand people participated in the event.

The meeting organized in support of Palestine began a few hours earlier, around 11 am. The group concentrated on Praça Oswaldo Cruz, on Avenida Paulista. Convened by the Palestinian Arab Federation of Brazil (Fepal), the organization estimates the participation of around four thousand people.

Despite the escalating tension between Hamas and Israel, the Military Police reported that Sunday’s demonstrations were peaceful. The corporation also said that it will not release official data on the events in São Paulo.
