Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) set up his federal deputy office with people who worked at the Ministry of the Environment during his passage through the portfolio.
All eight appointed by Salles were part of his team at some point between December 2018, when he was chosen by Jair Bolsonaro (PL), until June 2021, the month of his departure from the ministry.
Among those chosen are two soldiers, Alexander Fortes do Nascimento, an Army colonel, and Luis Carlos Hiromi Nagao, a lieutenant colonel in the São Paulo Military Police.
Cleber Augusto Silva, David Boutsiavaras, Djanira Barbosa de Gouveia, Gastão Donadi, Rachel Gonçalves dos Santos and Randson Pereira were also nominated.
Salles says he chose them because they are people he trusts and that, for the time being, he does not see the need to nominate more people.
Salles’ tenure at the Ministry of the Environment was marked by criticism from environmentalists, who saw him as a government agent who advocated for the ruralist agenda. One of the most controversial moments of his administration happened when he proposed in an inter-ministerial meeting that the government should “pass the cattle and change all the rules and simplify rules”.
In an interview with Sheethe said he intends to review environmental legislation as a deputy.
