The Minister of Civil Affairs, Rui Costa (featured image), has heard a series of criticisms from parliamentarians after saying that Brasília is a “fantasy island”. In his agenda in Bahia, the minister of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) vented about the troubled week that the government faced in Congress this week and said that “Brasília is difficult. It is difficult because doing what is right there, for many, is wrong”.
“It was better [a capital] having stayed in Rio de Janeiro, or having gone to São Paulo, Minas or Bahia, so that whoever was going to enter a building like that, or the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate, would pass, before arriving at their place of work, in a favela, under an overpass, with people asking for food, seeing people unemployed”, said the minister.
Costa’s speech caused a negative reaction in parliamentarians from the Federal District, including Governor Ibaneis Rocha (MDB-DF). “He’s a complete idiot. He didn’t deserve to be where he is. Now we know where the attack against the Constitutional Fund comes from”, said the governor of Brasilia.
In addition to Rocha, district deputy Chico Valente (PT-DF) also came out in defense of the federal capital. According to the petista, the minister’s speeches show his lack of knowledge about the DF. “I invite you to visit Sol Nascente, Estrutural, Pôr do Sol, and others, so that you can discover the real DF”, he wrote on his Twitter account.
