Moraes authorizes transfer of Jefferson to hospital – 06/04/2023 – Power

The Minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraes authorized the transfer of former deputy Roberto Jefferson to a private hospital in Rio de Janeiro, after his health condition worsened as a result of a fall.

Jefferson was interned at the Hamilton Agostinho Penitentiary Hospital, in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro, but the defense of the former deputy alleges that the unit does not have the structure to offer adequate medical treatment. With Moraes’ authorization, he will be transferred to Hospital Samaritano Botafogo, also in Rio.

The endorsement granted by the minister is subject to compliance with precautionary measures, which prohibit him from receiving unauthorized visits, accessing social networks, granting interviews or using cell phones, tablets or any other electronic communication device.

He will also receive escort from the Criminal Police throughout the period of hospitalization. The violation of any of these conditions will motivate the return to the prison unit, says Moraes in the decision.

In a medical report issued by Seap (Secretary of State for Penitentiary Administration) in Rio de Janeiro, doctors report that Jefferson was admitted to the hospital on June 2 after suffering a fall and hitting his head.

According to professionals, the former deputy has a “hematoma in the left frontal region”, shows signs of disorientation, reports hearing voices, is in “bad general condition” and dehydrated.

Doctors suspect that Jefferson may have suffered head trauma as a result of the fall and, therefore, needs to undergo additional tests that the prison hospital unit is unable to offer.

The report also recommends carrying out tests to track a possible recurrence of cancer, given the worsening state of health of the former deputy. In 2012, he needed to undergo treatment after the removal of a malignant tumor in the pancreas.

“Seap does not have the means to offer the patient adequate compliance with the measures mentioned above. In particular, we do not have tomographic image exams, tumor markers for neoplasm screening and thyroid hormone dosage”, said the organ.

Jefferson was arrested on October 23, 2022, by order of Moraes, on the grounds of repeated non-compliance with the rules of the house arrest he had been in since January 2022, for health reasons.

On the occasion, Moraes relaxed the preventive detention decreed in August 2021 as part of the investigation of the digital militias linked to then-president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The day before being detained again, he used his daughter’s Twitter account, former deputy Cristiane Brasil (PTB), to curse Minister Cármen Lúcia, of the STF. The magistrate was called “Blair Witch” and “Carmen Lucifer”, among other insults.

Faced with the new arrest order issued by Moraes, Jefferson received the Federal Police agents with grenades and rifle shots. He is accused of attempted murder against four federal police officers who went to serve the warrant.
