Governor Ronaldo Caiado (União-GO), from Goiás, confirmed this Friday (16) that he will go to the event organized by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on the 25th, on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo. He joins Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) and opposition parliamentarians who intend to support the event in which Bolsonaro intends to defend himself against suspicions that he had been involved in the alleged coup attempt.

Caiado stated that he will be present as a political ally of Bolsonaro, highlighting that the event will be peaceful and aims to give a voice to the former president, who is under investigation by the Federal Police. “As a political ally, I will be present at the moment when former president Bolsonaro calls on the population to listen to his arguments,” he said in an interview with Estadão.

Ronaldo Caiado seeks Bolsonaro’s support for his possible candidacy for presidential succession in 2026, and has already been identified by research as a strong name to run for Planalto. He emphasized that the act of the 25th is not against anyone, as highlighted by Bolsonaro in his call. The governor highlighted that “he wants an opportunity to speak to Brazil and I will be by his side.”

Despite having broken politically in 2020 due to differences at the beginning of the pandemic, Caiado and Bolsonaro became closer in the same year.

In the video in which he called for the demonstration, Bolsonaro appealed to his followers asking them not to take posters or banners “against anyone” to the Avenida Paulista demonstration, for fear of additional retaliation from the STF. Furthermore, he encouraged people to attend using the colors of the Brazilian flag.

The former president expressed the desire to capture a “photograph” during the event to “show Brazil and the world” the unity of the Brazilian people, their concerns and commitment to the values of “God, country, family and freedom” . The video was shared by congressmen who support Bolsonaro, amplifying the call for the act.
