Rodrigo Pacheco criticizes revanchism in the National Congress: “Peace in Brazil”

He also stated that the time is now to establish “peace in Brazil” and that the Legislative House cannot become a “stage of revanchism”
Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD) defended, this Tuesday (31), that the National Congress needs to be a peaceful space between the Legislative, Executive and Judiciary branches. He also stated that the time is now to establish “peace in Brazil” and that the Legislative House cannot become “a stage of revanchism”.
The definition of the new command of the National Congress for the next two years will take place this Wednesday (1/2). Elections for the office of President of the Chamber and Senate will take place shortly after the opening of the legislative year and the inauguration ceremony of the elected parliamentarians.
“Our conduct at the head of the Federal Senate took into account respect for all senators, including those in the opposition and in the situation. At no time did we allow the Senate to become a stage for bombs,” said Pacheco, in an interview with GloboNews.
“We seek to have a Federal Senate that is not the stage for revanchism and retaliation against other Powers, but, on the contrary, a stage for positive construction with the Executive and Judiciary, at a time when we have the opportunity for this, to finally have peace in Brazil”, he added.
Election
The current president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), is considered a favorite to win; however, he will face the PL candidate, holder of the largest bench in the House this year.
The former minister of Jair Bolsonaro and elected senator Rogério Marinho (RN) was the name of the party chosen to clash with the senator from Minas Gerais. For this, the PL will have the support of acronyms such as PP, by Ciro Nogueira, and Republicans. There is also the candidate for Podemos, Eduardo Girão (CE), who promises to take votes away from the other candidates.
To win the presidency of the House in the first round, the candidate needs at least 41 votes. If no one reaches that number, the names go to the second round. The chosen one then takes office.
In the House, the main bet is that elections be defined by betrayal – which occurs when a senator votes against the party’s orientation or against an agreement made with a certain candidate. It should be noted that the vote is secret.
Another possibility pointed out by Bolsonaristas is that Podemos withdraws Girão’s candidacy on polling day and, to weaken Pacheco, support Marinho heavily in the dispute.
Those elected will command the Legislative Houses from February 1, 2023 to January 31, 2025.
