Approved law seeks to hold more organic product fairs in Amazonas

Manaus (AM) – The president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), celebrated the validity of Law No. 6594/2023, which encourages and regulates the holding of Organic Products Fairs in the state of Amazonas. The proposal was sanctioned in the month in which the state held the 45th Amazonas Agricultural Exhibition (Expoagro).

“We are aware of the potential for generating employment and income from the agricultural sector. Everything is a chain. We need to encourage rural producers and also create spaces for the sale of products. This is our intention with the recently sanctioned law. There is no doubt that, with more fairs, the demand for organic products will certainly increase, stimulating production and the generation of jobs and income”,

said the parliamentarian.

The State Policy to encourage Organic Products Fairs aims to promote food and nutritional security and the right to adequate and healthy food; encourage the consumption of organic products; stimulate entrepreneurship and cooperativism, with a view to growing the production of organic products and contributing to cooperativism and the solidarity economy.

It also establishes guidelines for planning actions aimed at the sector; organization and structuring of production, distribution, marketing and consumption circuits of these products.

Other proposals

Another initiative by the deputy president that encourages family farming and cooperativism in the State is Bill (PL) No. 18/2023, which creates the State Policy to Support Cooperativism and Family Farming. The measure aims to boost the primary economy, through improvements in cultivation methods, encouraging access to more productive forms and through more modern technologies.

“Our proposal aims to provide mechanisms that allow for greater productivity per cultivated or explored area, within legal exploitation standards. We want to protect producers who cultivate for their own consumption and for sale, in addition to all agricultural production, whether animal or vegetable. Certainly, if producers have better, more organized and structured conditions, they will better serve the market and also their own subsistence”,

defended.

PL No. 11/2023 is also proposed by the City, which creates the “State Incentive Policy for Agroindustries in the State of Amazonas”. The PL intends to promote the creation of new agro-industrial enterprises, encourage the regularization of informal agro-industries and the State’s agro-industrial competitiveness.

The State Policy to encourage Agro-industries also aims to promote the economic, social and environmental sustainability of rural production chains; reduce regional disparities, by encouraging the establishment of agro-industries in regions not designed for large plantations; contribute to the generation of jobs and income and increase labor productivity; innovation, modernization and technological development.

Another City initiative to assist local producers is the creation of the “Amazonense Product Seal”, through laws nº 5,607/2021 and 6,435/2023. The measure encourages the consumption of fruit and vegetables, dairy products, agricultural and processed products. “We have high-quality regional products that are often not consumed on a larger scale, simply because the consumer cannot access them. With this seal, we want to make more spaces possible, provide more and better conditions for local production to be seen and, above all, consumed”, he summarized.
