Manaus (AM) – School holidays are practically synonymous with extra time to access social media and electronic games. However, parents and guardians must be careful to ensure that prolonged access does not harm the health of children and adolescents.

In this context, state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), had Bill No. 350/2021 approved in plenary, which establishes an educational awareness program to prevent and combat the use of media social and electronic and virtual games that induce children and adolescents to violence, self-mutilation and suicide. The proposal awaits government sanction.

“Children and teenagers are increasingly immersed in the virtual world and that’s it, there will be no going back. That’s why we need to be aware of the harm this ‘new world’ can bring. Our proposal aims to be an additional tool in combating behaviors that can lead children and adolescents to violence, self-mutilation and suicide. Awareness needs to be raised so that harmful practices are prevented. Our children and adolescents need this care and protection”,

reinforced.

The program must be developed in units of the education network in the State of Amazonas, public and private, with the participation of the school community and parents and/or guardians through seminars, lectures, workshops, videos and conversation circles, as well as through psychological and social assistance.

The objectives of the proposed law are: to combat the spread of games that induce violence, suicide and self-mutilation; raise awareness among students about the value of life; prevent self-harm and suicide practices; involve teachers and pedagogical teams in the proposal to raise awareness in the school environment; disseminate information about the dangers of social media and games that propagate violence; and guide parents, family members and those responsible for students on the importance of observing changes in behavior.
