Manaus (AM) – The Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) honored this Monday, (8), in a session presided over by state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), the assistant attorney general of the municipality of Manaus, Marco Aurélio de Lima Choy, with the Ruy Araújo Medal, highest commendation of the state parliament. The proposal for the homage was authored by the deputy of the 19th Legislature, Álvaro Campelo.

Lawyer, career attorney for the Municipality of Manaus, professor at the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA), Federal Counselor of the Order of Lawyers of Brazil, the honoree is former president of the OAB, Amazonas section and known for his performance, especially in Law Electoral, in all elections held in the last two decades in the state of Amazonas.

“This House today honors a great Amazonian with the Ruy Araújo Medal. Honor given to those who contribute their lives and their professional activities to our State, this medal fits very well with our honoree. Professional of unquestionable quality, Dr. Choy is a personality with unblemished conduct and who spares no efforts to make the law, his great passion, respected and valued. But in addition to all his professional contribution, Dr. Choy is a militant lawyer and today he is also honored because of the flags he raises in defense of our people and the Amazon”.

Among the feats of the honoree that were highlighted by the deputy president is the action filed by Choy, as president of the OAB-AM, against all health plans, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, forcing them to care for patients even were still in the grace period.

“In his management, in his most recent passage as president of OAB-AM, Dr. Choy showed everyone, society and authorities, the importance of advocacy and the union of the lawyers’ class for the common good. And Dr. Choy is like that. In addition to being a professional and a professor, someone who practices prominent advocacy is a human being who seeks to build a better, more egalitarian society and who also deserves the recognition of the Assembly of the State of Amazonas”, he reinforced.

In his speech of thanks, Marco Aurélio Choy spoke of the joy of receiving the highest honor granted by the state parliament of Amazonas and gave a brief explanation of his professional career.

“The Ruy Araújo Medal is the most important medal I could receive. She is the highest commendation of the people of Amazonas and through her I feel honored by the people of my state. It arrives the week of my birthday, when I’ll be 43 years old, and also when I’m living with my ex. Former president of OAB-AM, former titular prosecutor of the municipality of Manaus, and being remembered as a former has a special value. Today I live a very happy moment and thank you for the recognition of what I am most proud of, which is collective service. Thank you all so much,” he said.

The ceremony for awarding the medal was attended by the acting governor of Amazonas, Tadeu de Souza; the president of OAB-AM, Jean Cleuter Simões Mendonça; Judge of the Court of Justice of Amazonas (TJAM), Flávio Humberto Pascarelli Lopes, directors of the School of Magistracy of Amazonas; the President of the Audit Court of Amazonas (TCE-AM), Érico Xavier Desterro; federal deputy Fausto Jr (União Brasil); general defender of the State, Ricardo Paiva; in addition to representatives of the Judiciary of Amazonas, councilors of Manaus, municipal secretaries, state deputies, family members and friends of the honoree.
