Manaus (AM) – The state deputy and president of the Legislative Assembly of the Amazon (Aleam), Roberto Cidade (União Brasil), was present, this Monday (6), at the opening ceremony of the state school year, together with governor Wilson Lima (União Brasil ). The event took place at the Full Time Education Center (Ceti) João dos Santos Braga, Nova Cidade neighborhood, North Zone of Manaus.

“Today, more than 200,000 students returned to the classrooms. I am happy to be here and see how much attention education has received from this state administration. So it is also in our mandate. Governor Wilson Lima has sought to invest and make education in our State, both in the capital and in the interior of Amazonas, gain in quality and access. Students, take advantage of the opportunity you are having. You have quality structure and teaching. Take advantage of this and have a great school year.”

During the opening of the school year, the governor also announced the expansion of bilingual education to more than 10 schools next year and launched the 2nd grade of Novo Ensino Médio (NEM). “We are implementing the new High School, a partnership with Cetam, with Sebrae, so that you (students) have the opportunity to have access to technological knowledge, science, culture, issues related to the reality of the state of Amazon. All this so that you are able to be in the job market”, declared Governor Wilson Lima.

New High School

The second stage of the New Middle School (NEM) came into effect in Brazilian schools in 2022 for 1st grade students. This year, 2nd grade high school students enter a new phase, where, from now on, they will also have disciplines focused on design, technology and other skills.

In this way, the student will be able to study all the essential knowledge for life in society and will also leave high school better prepared for the job market. The Federal Government forecasts that, by 2024, the new education format will be applied throughout the country.

Bilingual Teaching

Through the State Department of Education and Sports (Seduc), it is estimated that, by 2024, the state education network should insert Full-Time Bilingual Education in Amazonas in at least 10 teaching units of the state public network . The expansion of bilingual schools seeks to provide access and learning of another language, cultures and strengthen student training in the personal, academic and professional spheres.

Currently, Seduc provides Bilingual Education to nine schools with the following languages: English, Spanish, French, Japanese, and an indigenous school (Tukano), reaching approximately 5,500 students.
