Rio Summer Jiu-Jitsu Open breaks enrollment record and enshrines great champions

Last weekend, Arena Carioca 1 of the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, located in the West Zone, hosted the Rio Summer Jiu-Jitsu Open, a stage that is part of the CBJJD National Circuit – former Rio Mineirinho Circuit. The edition had a record number of athletes enrolled at black belt and even distributed cash prizes to the absolute champions.
At adult black belt, Marlon Ribeiro, from GFTeam, was the absolute champion after defeating Renan Bezerra (Double Five). At color belts, also in the adult class, Luiz Henrique Ribeiro (Takayas Top Team) won at blue belt, Kaipo Ribeiro (Akxe) at purple belt and Marcos Paulo (R1ng) at brown belt, all champions.
Still at black belt, Paulo Henrique Costa (Double Five) secured the title in master 1, as well as Luiz Pedro Gomes (Ares/Gavazza BJJ) in master 2, Marcos Paulo Vieira (Double Five) in master 3 and Alexandre dos Santos ( Potato Team) in master 4.
Rogério Gavazza, president of CBJJD, commented on the success of the Rio Summer Open: “It was a great edition this February. We had a record number of athletes signed up at black belt and also, as always, children. ages, we also had a very expressive participation, highlighting the Queen of Rio with great fights on the mat of the Olympic Park”, said Gavazza, who added:
“To complete the party this summer weekend with many fights, Refrigerante Mineirinho, official sponsor of the Circuit, raffled several parasols among all participants, in addition to Brazil Combat kimonos, which were raffled in partnership with FJJD-RIO and CBJJD. The dispute for the ranking is getting cooler and I just have to thank all the teams and athletes for their commitment”.
In the general race between the youth, adult and master teams, the Top 5 had Double Five, GFTeam, Top Brother, Infight and Projeto Vencedores em Cristo. In the pre-child and children’s categories, Infight, Equipe Gileade, Double Five, Nova União and Projeto Vencedores em Cristo made up the top five places.
The Rio Summer Jiu-Jitsu Open had double points for the ranking. The champions of the 2022/23 season will win tickets to international competitions of the ISBJJ in Europe.
