The deadline for adhering to the tax self-regularization program begins this Tuesday (2). Approved at the end of last year by Congress, the program allows individuals and legal entities to settle tax debts with the IRS without fines and interest. It is valid for any federal tax charged by the IRS and constituted between November 30, 2023 and April 1, 2024, when the membership period ends.

Citizens and companies will be able to get rid of fines and interest if they pay half of the debt immediately, being able to pay the remainder in up to 48 monthly installments – the measure does not apply, however, to debts of companies determined in Simples Nacional.

Adhesion can be made on the Revenue’s E-CAC portal, and involves extrajudicial confession of the debt. The debtor will be excluded from the program if he fails to pay three consecutive installments, six alternate installments or one installment if all others have been paid.
