Maintained in the position of Minister of Tourism even under pressure from the União Brasil to leave the Esplanada, Daniela Carneiro presented to the deputies this Tuesday (13) proposals that should be implemented in the portfolio. The presentation to the Chamber took place hours after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) decided to keep her in government.
Daniela Carneiro told the deputies that, while she is at the head of the ministry, she intends to strengthen community-based tourism and, for that, she will establish a partnership with the ministries of Indigenous Peoples and Racial Equality to promote tourism in indigenous and quilombola communities.
The minister also said that another priority of the current management will be professional qualification, mainly for assisting tourists with disabilities. Daniela also celebrated the results of the sector, which already earned BRL 54.9 billion this year, up 25.4% compared to the same period in 2019, the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Also during the hearing, Daniela Carneiro said that the ministry works to expand the sector, such as increasing air routes, both national and international. The minister said that she is talking with the Ministry of Mines and Energy and with Petrobras to lower the price of aviation kerosene, which would have already dropped by 35% of the value of fuel, and airline tickets almost 18% cheaper.
Next to the minister was Deputy Bibo Nunes (PL-RS), who said that tourism is a “super source of income”, but that it is not valued in the country. Nunes was the author of the audience with the minister to have access to the portfolio’s plans in the midst of the dispute with União Brasil.
Government interlocutors claim that Daniela Carneiro should remain in office at least until the end of this week, and will participate in the ministerial meeting called by Lula for this Thursday (15). The minister must present a balance sheet of work in the folder before being replaced.
