The celebration of the 52nd birthday of the president of the Republicans, Marcos Pereira, brought together ministers from the Lula government (PT) and the STF (Supreme Federal Court), the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and potential opponents of the birthday boy in the dispute for command of the House, before former deputy Eduardo Cunha.

A few hours after confirming the maintenance of Chiquinho Brazão’s arrest by a tight score of 277 votes to 129, party leaders from the base and the opposition socialized at the house in Lago Sul.

A name supported by Lira, deputy Elmar Nascimento (BA), leader of União Brasil, was talking to colleagues near the entrance to the event. Behind the scenes, some parliamentarians assessed that the ally of the President of the Chamber made a risky choice with little electoral effect by trying to replicate Lira’s stance and adopt a corporatist position in defense of Brazão’s release. For them, there is no point in the leader of União Brasil positioning himself in this way without, at the same time, trying to get closer to the “lower clergy”.

Former president of the Chamber and one of the organizers of the frustrated attempt to release Brazão, former federal deputy Eduardo Cunha was circulating around the party. He exchanged a few words with the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL), who was in Brasília to participate in an event for a health plan that operates in the state.

Castro also spoke to parliamentarians from Rio de Janeiro, including the leader of Solidariedade in the Chamber, Aureo Ribeiro, one of those who did not vote in the session that kept Brazão in prison. Asked about the municipal dispute, the governor was categorical in saying that it would be won by his ally, delegate Ramagem (PL-RJ).

Part of the Esplanada moved to the party at Lago Sul. Ministers such as Fernando Haddad (Finance), who stayed briefly at the event, were present, as well as Luiz Marinho (Labor), Jorge Messias (AGU), Luciana Santos (Science and Technology), Silvio Costa Filho (Ports and Airports), Juscelino Filho (Communications), André Fufuca (Sport), Ricardo Lewandowski (Justice and Public Security) and Paulo Teixeira (Agrarian Development). From the STF, ministers Gilmar Mendes and Dias Toffoli were present at the party.

The Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), quickly stopped by to greet Pereira. Before leaving, he spoke briefly in a circle with deputies Pedro Paulo (PSD-RJ) and Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE) and former deputy Silvio Costa. Alckmin and Silvio Costa were telling “stories” about the Minister of Defense, José Múcio.
