Reports from Folha are highlighted at the Pulitzer Center – 13/12/2023 – Novo em Folha

The Pulitzer Center, a North American organization that finances reporting with global impact, highlighted in its list, “2023: A Year in Stories”, 43 journalistic coverages among the more than a thousand produced with the organization’s encouragement this year. A Sheet appears with two reports.

“With farmland and fish farming, indigenous lands in Roraima seek to combine tradition and sustenance”, written by journalist Amanda Magnani and published on August 4, talks about the preservation of seeds and traditional cultures based on the growing involvement of young indigenous people in Serra from the moon.

“It’s a positive report about the Amazon. Amanda Magnani is a young journalist and did an excellent job distributing her production among international media, the mainstream Brazilian press and small local media outlets in the Amazon,” wrote Verónica Goyzueta, Amazon coordinator Rainforest Journalism Fund.

The topic where the report is highlighted was named “Seeds for a Sustainable Future: Hyperlocal Solutions in Indigenous Lands”, and recognized the project proposed by the journalist and Eric Terena, filmmaker, indigenous communicator and co-founder of the Mídia India collective.

The report “Time frame already affects indigenous communities even before being judged”, written by the journalist and published on June 6 by the newspaper, is also part of the project.

Besides the Sheetoutlets such as Al Jazeera, Folha de Roraima and Mongabay published texts, photographs, videos and audio products.

Annually, Pulitzer Center staff are invited to share which of the organization’s supported coverages were their favorites. “The ask is simple: tell us a story that surprised you or is important in some way,” communications director Sarah Swan wrote in announcing the list.

The highlights feature journalistic productions that generated some impact, were innovative in uncovering an injustice or provoked the reader to look from a new perspective.

Currently, the organization supports the production of major reports in 13 countries. The objective is to encourage journalists to tell stories of hope, resilience, resistance and community solutions, connecting local climate challenges, the identity and culture of each people and the riches and threats of each region.

“The stories represented here highlight the power of journalism to drive positive change. We look forward to sharing more crucial and under-covered journalism with you in the coming year,” he added.
