Even after the government retreated from the idea of reimbursing the payroll of 17 sectors of the economy through a provisional measure (MP) and decided to present the proposal via bill (PL), dissatisfaction in Congress remains. One of those most bothered by the measure is senator Efraim Filho (União-PB), author of the project that extended the tax exemption created under the Dilma Rousseff (PT) government until the end of 2027.

“The government understands that the publication of an MP was mistaken, but if the PL presented is a mere transplant of the MP, it will not meet the expectations of Congress”, said the parliamentarian to the Radar Econômico column, from “ Veja ” magazine.

According to him, the Legislature, in general, wants the exemption already approved to be maintained and that the discussion around a possible gradual increase only deals with the period after the end of the deadline already established by Congress. “We can discuss a phase out [redução gradual] exemption from 2028”, he argued.

The government’s intention, presented in the controversial MP, is that the discount on social security contributions that benefit 17 sectors will be gradually reduced until it is zeroed at the end of 2027.
