Régis Rosing and Giovana Teles are fired by Globo – 04/13/2023 – Ilustrada

Among the employees that Globo fired this Thursday, the 13th, are Régis Rosing, one of the biggest and longest-lived names in sports journalism at the station, and Giovana Teles, one of the main faces of political coverage in Brasília. Commentator Mauricio Noriega and narrator Jaime Júnior were also dismissed.

In a note, Globo regretted the dismissals and said that the changes in the team are aimed at “the search for efficiency and evolution”. The note can be read in full at the end of this report.

Rosing had worked at Globo for 33 years. He began his career at RBS, an affiliate of the Rio Grande do Sul broadcaster, and became known for his lively and easy-to-understand reports, even for those who are not close to sports.

Rosing covered the 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups and the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. Rwanda, African country that was at war. The journalist did not comment on his departure until the publication of this report.

Giovana Teles shared on her social networks that she had been fired, with a montage of two recent photos in which she appears working. “My last appearances in Globo newspapers”, she described.

Teles said he completed 21 years of hiring this month. “It was enough time to build a solid career, strengthen the passion for journalism and bonds of friendship that cannot be undone”, he wrote. “I feel comfortable and confident in my wings. They’re big, they’re strong, and I know there are beautiful windows and doors they’ll come through.”

Giovana Teles was born in Fortaleza and started at Globo in 1994, at the station’s affiliate in Ceará, TV Verdes Mares. In 2002, she was invited to move to Brasília. She participated for years in Jornal Nacional and Jornal da Globo. Now, she was the one who made the live entries from Brasília for Jornal Hoje.

Another dismissed name who had also been at Globo for 21 years was Maurício Noriega. One of the broadcaster’s main sports commentators, he participated mainly in SporTV programs, but also worked on open TV in programs such as Bom Dia São Paulo.

Jaime Júnior, in turn, had been with the station for 11 years and collaborated with SporTV for 15. The narrator was known for his work in games in Minas Gerais. “I only have words of thanks to the company in general and to all my colleagues. I spent the morning here saying goodbye to everyone”, he wrote on his social networks.

What does Globo say about layoffs

Globo, like the other leading companies in the market, has a permanent commitment to the pursuit of efficiency and evolution, but regrets when it says goodbye to professionals who helped to write and tell its story. This, however, is part of the dynamics of any company. Globo’s results reflect the good performance of its operations as a whole and a constant assessment of the country’s economic and business scenario. As part of the transformation process it has been going through in recent years and in line with its strategy, the company maintains cost discipline and investments in important growth initiatives.
