Rapporteur for the appointment of Cristiano Zanin to the STF (Federal Supreme Court), Senator Veneziano Vital (MDB-PB) says that his opinion will be restricted to “technical-legal” aspects, and says he sees the necessary attributes to recommend approval.
“Zanin has 25 years of full practice as a lawyer, without interregnums. I have no elements to prove that this history did not give him the resources to be present at the Supreme Court. He has a balanced posture and has already shown commitment to legalism”, he argued to the Panel.
The senator would meet with his cabinet team this Tuesday (13) and Wednesday (14) to start preparing the report.
The two had a quick meeting this Tuesday in the Senate. According to Veneziano, it was a 20-minute conversation, in which there was no opportunity to delve into Zanin’s positions on more controversial topics, such as those related to the customs agenda.
But both exchanged phone numbers and the lawyer made himself available to talk again in person or by phone to provide any clarification, if the senator deems it necessary.
The sabbatine at the CCJ (Commission on Constitution and Justice) was scheduled for next Wednesday (21). The expectation is that the name will be approved smoothly and go to the plenary for analysis on the same day.
