This Tuesday morning (07), the Senator from Amapá met with the Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, to discuss effective actions to strengthen Brazil’s relations, in particular Oiapoque, with French Guiana.
The binational cross-border bridge that connects the municipality of Amapá to Saint-Georges de l’Oyapock is located in the municipality of Oiapoque. The land connection was inaugurated in 2017 and one of the issues dealt with by the minister is directly related to the entry of Brazilians into the French space.
Brazilian citizens are subject to a short-term visa requirement to access French Guiana, as this region is a French overseas region. The visa costs about R$ 390, in addition to the amounts with mandatory insurance.
“The French are very welcome in Brazil and have total ease of entry, they encourage local trade and make the economy spin, but it is also necessary to study the feasibility of facilitating the issuance of visas for Brazilians, especially those who live in Oiapoque” , said the senator.
Congress
The senator also addressed several issues that will be debated in the National Congress over the coming months, in addition to seeking actions to improve the country’s relations with the rest of the world, harmed by the decisions taken by the last government.
