Quaest: 53% think that Bolsonaro is not being persecuted – 02/28/2024 – Power

Quaest research shows that 53% of Brazilians believe that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is not being persecuted in court. Another 39% understand that the former president is being persecuted in ongoing investigations, and 7% do not know or did not respond.

Quaest interviewed 2,000 people from all regions of the country from Sunday (25) until this Tuesday (27), and the survey’s margin of error is 2.2 percentage points, plus or minus.

In the population, the persecution thesis has more support among evangelicals (53%) and among Bolsonaro’s own voters in the 2022 election (72%).

The survey also points out that 47% of the population considers that Bolsonaro participated in a coup plan after his defeat in the 2022 election. 40% disagree with this view, and 13% did not know or did not respond.

The former president is being investigated in ongoing investigations at the STF (Supreme Federal Court), and his allies were arrested as part of this investigation on the 8th. In a speech last Sunday (25th) on Avenida Paulista, he complained about “abuse by of some who bring insecurity to everyone”.

In another question, 51% stated that the Electoral Court was right to make the former president ineligible in trials that took place last year. For 40%, this decision was a mistake.

The researchers also questioned those interviewed about the demonstration promoted by Bolsonaro on Avenida Paulista last Sunday. 53% said they were aware of the act, compared to 47% who said they were unaware. For 50%, the former president emerged stronger from the event.
