PV repudiates and threatens expulsion of deputies who voted against Brazão’s arrest

The Green Party released this Thursday (11) a note of repudiation against federal deputies Jadyel Alencar (PI) and Luciano Amaral (AL). The two voted against maintaining the arrest of Chiquinho Brazão, identified as a suspect in the murder of councilor Marielle Franco.

In the note, the party informs that “the two deputies had already requested the removal of the PV and that they had already received the Letters of Consent for party disaffiliation, signed by the National Presidency, the National Secretariat of Legal Affairs and by representatives of the state directorates”.

According to the party, deputy Jadyel’s letter of removal was signed on March 6, 2024 and Luciano’s, on February 26 of this year.

“The PV does not understand why these parliamentarians have not yet left the party and requests that they do so immediately. If they do not leave immediately, we will opt for expulsion”, wrote the national president of PV, José Luiz Penna.

In a video published on social media, deputy Jadyel said that he “never voted against the punishment or arrest of those accused in Marielle’s case”. “I voted against what they did to the Federal Constitution, which is how the STF, with all the respect I have for the institution, led to the arrest of federal deputy Brazão. He should be arrested, he should be arrested, tried, convicted, the day the impeachment process reaches this house, I will vote for his impeachment. I am in favor of prison, but in a legal way and not tearing up the Brazilian constitution”, said the parliamentarian.

Vote to maintain the prison

The Chamber of Deputies approved the maintenance of the prison of federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão (no party-RJ), with a score of 277 votes in favor, 129 against and 28 abstentions.

Lawyer Cleber Lopes, who represents the deputy, criticized the handling of the case and highlighted that a parliamentarian can only be arrested in flagrante delicto for a non-bailable crime. He asked parliamentarians to declare Brazão’s arrest illegal. For the defense, “there is no flagrant state” in this case, which is why Brazão should not have been detained.
