The 1.3 turbo flex engine is present in several models of the Stellantis group. In the Fiat range, it appears under the hood of the Pulse Abarth and the Fastback Limited Edition.

Its 185 hp of power ensured the first positions of these models in the Compact SUVs category of the 2023 Folha-Mauá Ranking.

The Pulse Abarth (R$ 150,000) won the acceleration tests and tied with the Fastback (R$ 160,000) in the recovery measurements for both gasoline and ethanol.

The winners are equipped with a brake sensor (it can stop the car to avoid collision), electric handbrake, induction cell phone charging, reversing camera, digital air conditioning and power steering, among other items.

The weak point is the absence of curtain airbags, which have already become common items in the price range of these cars.

Although they have the same engine, the Pulse Abarth has a more sporty calibration. The six-speed exchange has shorter ratios, which favors retakes, but increases consumption.

The exhaust system has been modified to emit a more serious rumble, typical of European sports cars. In the visual part, the scorpion logo replaces the Fiat name on the bodywork.

In terms of consumption, the Hyundai Creta N Line was the best in urban use with both ethanol and gasoline.

Although it also brings a more sporty look than the other options in the line, this compact SUV of South Korean origin maintains the 1.0 flex engine (120 hp) unchanged, as well as the calibration of the six-speed automatic transmission.

In the road consumption test with ethanol, the best result was achieved by the Chevrolet Tracker 1.2 turbo (133 hp), which returned to the track after undergoing updates to adapt to the seventh phase of Proconve (Program for Control of Air Pollution by Motor Vehicles).

And another version of the Fastback did well in the tests: the Audace 1.0 turbo option (R$ 120,000) was the most economical in road use with gasoline.

HOW TESTS ARE DONE

To measure the performance of the cars, the Mauá Institute of Technology uses the V-Box, equipment that uses a GPS signal. The acceleration and resumption tests are carried out on the track owned by the company ZF, in Limeira (inland São Paulo).

The stage that verifies consumption in the city is 27 km long. To simulate a road trip at 90 km/h, the test drivers drive for 31 km.

Both routes are in São Caetano do Sul (ABC), where the institute’s headquarters are located. If the car is flex-fuel, two measurements are made: one with ethanol, the other with gasoline.

The consumption of electric models is measured using the charger installed in the IMT. The test calculates the cost to travel 100 km in urban and highway modes.
