Public hearing on zero tariff in SP will gather Boulos – 02/15/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The viability of zero tariffs in municipal transport in the capital of São Paulo will be discussed at a public hearing promoted by São Paulo councilor Toninho Vespoli (PSOL).

The ceremony, which will take place on February 27 at the City Council of São Paulo, should be attended by federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP), quoted to run for Mayor of SP in 2024, by the coordinator of the Rosa Luxemburgo Foundation, Daniel Santini , and former São Paulo Secretary of Transport Lucio Gregori.

The urban planner Raquel Rolnik, the coordinator of the mobility program at Idec (Institute for Consumer Protection), Rafael Calabria, and the president of the Public Transport Company (EPT) of Maricá (RJ), Celso Haddad, should also participate in the discussion.

Representatives of the municipal secretariats for Mobility and Traffic and for Green and the Environment will be convened by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ).

The city of São Paulo currently pays BRL 4.7 billion to keep transport costs at BRL 4.40. To date, no major metropolis has completely adopted zero tariffs, mainly because the costs of maintaining a system to transport millions of people per day are very high.

The agenda on transport in cities was mentioned by the team of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) still in the transitional government.
