The PT and social movements plan a major mobilization on the 8th against the law that Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) has been using to sell vacant lands with up to 90% discount to farmers in São Paulo.

The event takes place in the same month that Justice Carmen Lúcia, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), is expected to make a decision on a direct action of unconstitutionality against the legislation.

Unoccupied lands are public areas occupied irregularly that have never had a destination defined by the government and have never had a private owner. The law came into force during the management of Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), but the administration of Tarcísio, elected with the support of the agro, started to put the processes into practice.

The left has already asked the minister for speed on the subject, since, as shown by the Sheetthe government has accelerated the process of regularizing vacant lands before the law can fall.

The idea now is to give a great demonstration of mobilization, with the presence of parliamentarians, professors, trade unionists, members of the XI de Agosto academic center, of the Faculty of Law of USP, and of the MST (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra).

The event will take place at the Faculty of Law of USP, in Largo São Francisco, at 10 am. During the act, a letter against the legislation will be presented.

The initiative articulated by the PT leadership in Alesp (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo), in charge of state deputy Paulo Fiorilo, and social movements also coincides with the moment when the right uses the agrarian question to attack the Lula (PT) government.

The subject grew after the invasion of an Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) farm in Petrolina (PE) by the MST, and became ammunition in the CPI that investigates the social movement.

The São Paulo law, on the other hand, is the focus of the left-wing deputies in the commission. They even articulated the summoning of a Tarcísio management member responsible for the area, Guilherme Piai, to explain the matter.

The Tarcísio government defends the law on the grounds that it reduces costs with lawsuits and that it benefits properties that fulfill a social function.
