The president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, criticized the Central Bank’s decision to maintain the Selic, the basic interest rate, at 13.75% per annum. On social networks, Gleisi questioned whether BC president Roberto Campos Neto did not understand his commitment to Brazil.

“Roberto Campos explains: how can entrepreneurs raise funds with the highest interest rates in the world? How to invest if the money invested yields 8% reais? Did you not understand your commitment to Brazil? Its interest only benefits renters and those who do not produce. Its monetary policy has already been defeated,” said the federal deputy at the twitter.

In addition to the president of the PT, the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) also demonstrated dissatisfaction with the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom). In a note, the CUT stated that it considers the maintenance of the Selic to be “unacceptable”.

“The decision reveals a complete submission by this Committee to the interests of the rentiers and an evident boycott by the president of the Central Bank to the effort of all and all who work for the resumption of activities and economic growth, generating jobs and income distribution”, said the entity. .

“The reduction in the basic interest rate would reduce the government’s expenses with interest on the debt, which would allow it to invest in the resumption and execution of new works, generating jobs, improved logistics and a better quality of life”, added the CUT.
