The Workers’ Party (PT) extrajudicially notified Google for a suggestion to revise the search that associates President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with corruption, according to the newspaper. On Friday (5), the eve of the coronation of King Charles III, users showed images of searches for “Lula coronação” that were answered by the search engine with the question: “Did you mean ‘Lula corruption’?”.

Some of them hypothesized that there would be ideological bias in Google’s algorithm. This behavior of the search engine, however, is common: when rarely performed searches are similar to frequently performed searches, the algorithm usually suggests the frequent alternative, assuming that there was a typing error.

Second The globe, the PT says that Google’s suggestion about Lula constitutes “abuse of economic power and violation of the right of free conscience of Brazilian citizens”. The company, in the party’s view, would be “using its economic power and virtual virtual monopoly to manipulate public opinion in favor of its private interests, violating art. 5, item VI, of the Federal Constitution”. Also according to the newspaper, Google says that it uses “automated systems” that “do not take into account political ideology”, but that it is using its own policies that apply to the case to solve the problem.
