Former police ombudsman for the state of São Paulo, Benedito Mariano received the support of former Justice Minister Tarso Genro to occupy the National Public Security Secretariat (Senasp) under Ricardo Lewandowski as head of the department.
“Lewandowski enters with category and wisdom. Lula got it right. A big name that replaces another big name. If the name of Benedito Mariano is confirmed in the Public Security Secretariat, he will already score a great goal. It will even be possible to recover Pronasci”, he wrote Tarso, who was a minister in the second Lula government between 2007 and 2010, at X.
Mariano, currently Secretary of Public Security in Diadema (SP), is one of the main formulators of the PT in the area and coordinated Lula’s sectoral government program. He has the support of various sectors of the party to take over Senasp.
Still in December, the PT’s National Public Security Sector published a document supporting him for the role.
Mariano also received support from entities such as the National Federation of Military Officer Entities (Feneme) and the National Federation of Municipal Guards Unions (Fenaguardas).
