The main study center linked to the PT, the Perseu Abramo Foundation will create in 2024 a nucleus dedicated to studying religious themes and the party’s relationship with different faiths.

Although all religions will be the subject of analysis by the new nucleus, evangelicals will receive special attention.

Called NAPPs (Public Policy Monitoring Centers), these groups are currently dedicated to topics such as economy, security, agriculture, education, health and others.

“We need to update the behavior of religious people in Brazil, reflect on what they think and how they can relate to us”, says the president of the Foundation, Paulo Okamotto.

According to him, there is an understanding in the party regarding the Catholic Church, and not so good regarding evangelicals. The idea is to produce studies and research and provide suggestions on how to relate to the segment. “There are several Pentecostals and neo-Pentecostals who sympathize with the PT and belong to the party”, he states.

The decision comes in line with the directive given by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva himself at a party electoral conference in early December, in Brasília.

At the time, he recommended that PT members get closer to the evangelical electorate, among which conservative politicians have much greater acceptance.
