PSOL angers Lula government by voting against fiscal framework – 05/18/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

PSOL’s decision to vote against the urgency of the fiscal framework in the Chamber of Deputies displeased the Lula government. The president had already framed PT parliamentarians, asking them not to present amendments to the project. And he expected allied parties to do the same.
PARALLEL LINE
According to members of the government, Lula (PT) will discuss the matter with PSOL as soon as he returns from his trip to Japan.
LINE 2
The stance would have “soured” relations between the party and the government, and created noise that could affect the agreement signed between the PT and the PSOL regarding the candidacy of Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) for mayor of São Paulo, in 2024 .
HOLDING HANDS
The two parties agreed on an alliance in which Boulos will be the candidate at the head of the ticket, and the PT will nominate the vice-president. There are PT groups, however, that turn up their noses and try to detonate the agreement.
FIREWOOD
PSOL’s stance would contribute, according to a member of the government, to feed the wings that are against the agreement and that defend a PT candidacy for the municipal race.
TIME
The president of PSOL, Juliano Medeiros, says that “the PSOL group would like to have more time to discuss proposals for the text”. According to him, “the changes made by the rapporteur [o deputado federal Cláudio Cajado, do PP da Bahia] worsened the Treasury’s proposal, so we voted against the urgency”.
NATURAL
Medeiros also says that “this is not a reason for any disruption in the relationship with the government. Nobody always votes together, this is part of the dynamics of Parliament”.
