The municipal directory of the PSDB of São Paulo expelled federal deputy Joice Hasselmann, this Tuesday (31), after criticism that she would not have been re-elected to the position due to the party’s performance in the elections of October last year, in which it lost ground. in the legislature. The announcement came hours after the deputy herself announced her disaffiliation.

The party claims that the decision was taken unanimously and that the deputy had already been the target of “numerous requests for opposition since the announcement of her affiliation, her arrogant posture and the way she always treated guidelines and principles dear to the PSDB always brought discomfort to who is toucan/tucana out of conviction not convenience”.

Joice Hasselmann was elected deputy in 2018 with more than a million votes in a campaign in support of the then-presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro, both of whom were members of the PSL. She became leader of the government in Congress in 2019, but was removed from the position after disagreements with the former president over the conduct of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since then, she has become critical of the government and, in the race for re-election last year, she received less than 14,000 votes. Joice says that she should run for the second time for mayor of São Paulo in 2024 – in the first attempt, in 2020, she ended the election in seventh place.
