PSD expelled investigated for hostility to Moraes in Rome – 7/22/2023 – Power

The PSD expelled from its ranks businessman Roberto Mantovani Filho, investigated for hostility to STF (Supreme Federal Court) Minister Alexandre Moraes at Rome airport. The expulsion took place on Tuesday (18) and was launched this Friday (21) in the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) system.

Sought to confirm his decision, the president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, explained that he used the prerogative expressed in the party’s statute to disaffiliate in response to a disciplinary act.

Although automatic cancellation is only available to the PSD president, Kassab claims to have consulted members of the Executive and party leaders to carry out the shutdown.

Mantovani was part of the PSD since March 2016, for the municipality of Santa Bárbara D´Oeste (SP), where he exerts influence in politics and also in football.

The expulsion date coincides with the carrying out of a search and seizure operation at the investigated couple’s residence. The entrepreneur has the right to appeal, but the demonstration would not have suspensive effect.

Seen as a disaffected by allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Moraes was harassed at the Italian airport, shouting “bandit”, “communist” and “bought”, and reported a blow against his son, whose glasses even fell off.

Mantovani, who was with Andreia Munarão, his wife, Alex Zanatta Bignotto, his son-in-law, and Giovanni Mantovani, his son, defined the situation as “an embarrassment”.

In his political trajectory, Mantovani has already taken pictures alongside President Lula and was an ally of the PT during the 2004 municipal race.

In 2004, when Lula served his first term as president, Mantovani was a candidate for mayor of Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, in the interior of São Paulo, for the PL, with Luis Vanderlei Larguesa, from the PT, as his vice-president.

One of his campaign pictures shows the businessman next to the PT candidate. “With Mantovani, President Lula supports Santa Barbara,” he said.
