Provisional Measure on electricity tariffs in Amapá should be published by the end of the week, says director of Aneel – News of Brazil

The government is expected to publish this week the provisional measure (MP) that aims to mitigate the increase in energy tariffs in Amapá. There was an expectation that the MP could come out last Monday (19), but the CEA Equatorial tariff review process ended up being on the agenda of the weekly meeting of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) this Tuesday (20) .
“The Ministry of Mines and Energy reported that negotiations with the Civil House and the government were practically concluded, and that the provisional measure was expected to be issued by yesterday, inclusive,” said Aneel’s general director, Sandoval Feitosa. He confirmed that, because of this, he decided to include the topic in this Tuesday’s meeting. Without the MP, however, it was removed from the agenda.
Sandoval Feitosa assured, however, that “the concentrated effort of Minister Alexandre Silveira remains” so that Minister Rui Costa determines the publication of the MP by the end of the week. The process will be registered at the next Aneel board meeting, on the 27th.
The extraordinary tariff review of the distributor CEA Equatorial underwent public consultation at Aneel last year. The initial proposal provided for an average tariff increase of 44.41%.
The announcement of the adjustment provoked reactions from the Amapá bench in the National Congress and the state government, and President Lula promised measures to reduce the tariff increase.
The result of the review would be voted on on December 12th, but the regulatory agency (Aneel) decided to extend the current tariffs for 45 days, following the announcement by the then executive secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Efrain Cruz, that the MP announced according to the minister, it would come out on the 18th of that month, which ended up not happening.
The final index proposed at the time by rapporteur Fernando Mosna fell ten percentage points in relation to the public consultation proposal, reaching 34.54% on average. In high voltage, the tariff would rise by an average of 38.08%, and in low voltage by 33.53%. CEA Equatorial serves 211 thousand consumer units in the 16 municipalities of Amapá.
