On Sunday afternoon (10), a crowd filled Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, to protest against the current Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, going to the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Appointed by President Lula (PT), Dino will be questioned in the Senate next Wednesday (13).

Shouting “Dino, no” and “Lula, thief, you belong in prison”, the protesters occupied the avenue with posters charging the senators with rejecting the minister’s name.

Protesters were photographed carrying a simulacrum of a coffin with the following inscription on the side: “Democracy” and “Freedom”.

“Today, we are saying to an oppressive system, to a dictatorial judicial system that fear in this country is over,” said retired judge, Sebastião Coelho, when speaking to the protesters to applause.

Earlier, when participating in the demonstration in Brasília, the judge showed optimism regarding the attempt to block Dino’s nomination for the STF: “We are going to win this”, he stated.

When speaking to the crowd, the former deputy and pre-candidate for councilor for São Paulo, Douglas Garcia (Republicans), said that Dino’s move to the STF “it means censorship, legalization of abortion, removal of the right to self-defense, persecution of conservative patriots and ineligibility of all those who would have the power to change Brazilian politics”.

“The voice of the people in Paulista: ‘Dino, no’”, wrote senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) on the social network X.

In addition to protesting Dino’s nomination, protesters are calling for “justice for Clezão”, as businessman Cleriston Pereira was known, who died in Papuda on November 20th after having several warnings about his health condition ignored by the STF; ask for the impeachment the STF minister, Alexandre de Moraes; and the departure of the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).

Registration of acts carried out in other capitals, such as Recife (PE), Porto Alegre (RS) and Rio de Janeiro (RJ)are also being shared on social media.

In Porto Alegre (RS), protesters displayed banners calling for “an open vote for STF minister”.

In Recife, protesters displayed posters against Dino’s nomination and called for “arrest” for the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes. The people from Pernambuco walked along Avenida Boa Viagem, one of the main streets in the capital.
