The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, stated this Tuesday (20) that the government must present a proposal for the regulation of tax reform by March. According to Padilha, the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), will have access to the text before it is definitively sent to Congress.

“Our forecast is that, in March, we will already have a proposal, which we will first present to the leaders of the Chamber and Senate and the presidents of both Houses before definitively forwarding it to Congress”, said the minister after meeting with the President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), at Palácio do Planalto. Lula is expected to meet with Pacheco, Lira and base party leaders later this week.

Congress concluded voting on tax reform in December last year. Furthermore, the government leadership must define other priority themes on the economic agenda. The expectation is that the president will hit the hammer on sending a bill for the gradual reinstatement of 17 sectors of the economy.

Ministers Fernando Haddad (Finance), Rui Costa (Civil House), Márcio Macêdo (General Secretariat), Paulo Pimenta (Social Communication), and government leaders in the Chamber, José Guimarães (PT-BA), in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) and in Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues (no party-AP), participated in the meeting with Lula this Tuesday.
