Promise for the Olympics, athlete from Amazonas competes in the Brazilian Archery Championship

The indigenous athlete is a member of the Amazonas Project at the Paris 2024 Olympics
Manaus (AM) – Indigenous athlete Gustavo dos Santos, member of the Amazonas Project at the Paris 2024 Olympics, is seeking the title at the Brazilian Archery Championship, in Rio de Janeiro. Gustavo competes in the event that started on Monday (25th), and continues until Saturday (30th), with the best archers in the country.
“Gustavo is an outstanding athlete, who has followed a brilliant path towards the next Olympic cycle. It is Governor Wilson Lima’s determination that top athletes like him receive all the support to reach national and world levels in their sports”,
said Jorge Oliveira, Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel).
The 49th edition of the Brazilian Archery Championship is contested in the individual, recurve, compound, barebow, team and mixed doubles categories. In total, there are more than 200 athletes from 14 states.
“Bolsa Sport is extremely important for us, as we are high-performance athletes. All the resources I receive serve to maintain my career, always aiming for national competitions, which will enable me to win a place for the 2024 Olympics”,
commented Gustavo dos Santos.
The athlete has been a fan of archery for over 10 years and, today, trains at the Vila Olímpica de Manaus. The Amazon native carries important titles such as the 2018 Brazilian Championship, a silver medal at the 2018 South American Games in Bolivia, and 4th place in qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.
“I am very proud of my origins and very happy to carry the name of Amazonas in national and international competitions”, highlighted indigenous athlete Gustavo dos Santos.
